Bun Run enjoys the sweet taste of success
This new event had all the ingredients.
On Saturday (11 September), runners, walkers and dogs were served up a delight in the form of The Bun Run, a new 5K and 10K trail event at the Welbeck Estate, Nottinghamshire. Granted access to areas of this estate, they made the most of the picturesque course and all in perfect weather.
Well organised and Covid-safe, the Bun Run from SBR Events catered to all abilities and in a location normally closed to the public. The Welbeck Estate lies within the Dukeries – Clumber, Thoresby, Welbeck and Worksop Manor – on the borders of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire and home to forestry, woodlands, lakes, farmland and a deer park.
This event was open to walkers as well as runners who could Nordic Walk or Ramble around this estate and Canicross competitors were also welcome. It was fundraising for The School of Artisan Food, a charity that helps people of all backgrounds to learn traditional skills in baking and food production. A percentage of each entry fee plus donations on the day helps to provide opportunities to study at the school. The Great British Run Off meets the Great British Bake Off!
The 5K was a suitable option for families as well as individuals who followed a scenic route that looped back to the centre of the estate. The 10K had an equally attractive route that also included views of the historic Welbeck Abbey. Both routes were undulating; well marked and manned by cheerful, friendly marshals who worked hard to ensure the two and four legged participants completed their chosen distance.
