Brass Monkeys Awaits Full House

In what will be the 36th year of the event, this Sunday’s (14 January) Brass Monkey Half Marathon is set to welcome a full house. As ever, those competing in York Knavesmire Harriers’ annual run popular will be preparing for a chilly occasion at York Racecourse, with temperatures looking likely to be around 3°C.

The event is famed for its warm (despite the January date) and friendly atmosphere and has been a firm favourite on the UK circuit since it was established in 1983.

Starting on Bishopthorpe Road, runners travel through the village on to Acaster Lane and back through Bishopthorpe,via Appleton Roebuck, to a conclusion at York Racecourse.

2017 saw Keswick AC’s Steven Hebblethwaite secure top place in 1:09:18, followed by Tyne Bridge Harriers’ Finn Affleck-Brodie (1:09:24) and Sheffield RC’s Joe Sweetnam-Powell (1;09:51).

In the women’s field, Birtley AC’s Tracy Millmore bagged first in 1:17:16, with Shona Mcintosh (1:19:14) and Tori Green (1:21:31) second and third respectively.
