Take Your Dog To Run Day
Sign up for this beautiful beach run with your four-legged friend...
Cani-sports Scotland's famous beach race, the The Black Dog 5K, will return on 16 September with canines and their humans gathering at Pettycur Sands in Fife for this fun (and furry) event.
The course is an out and back on Pettycur Sands beach. Runners (both the four and two legged varieties) will head to the Back Rock, run around the rock and then head back to the start with the distance covered just under 5K. Organisers do warn: "You will get your feet wet!"
There will be a mass start with runners spread out across a wide start line on the beach, so there is plenty of space for runners and their pooches. Those who wish to start on their own may do so after the mass start and need to contact organisers to arrange this.
The Rebecca Johnston Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the fastest runner on the beach with Memorial Trophies for Juniors and two dog runners. There will be Happy Go Lucky Dog Company Limited voucher prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category.
Cani-sports Scotland say: "We’re a friendly bunch of people from all over Scotland (and a few from south of the border) who share the enjoyment of being outdoors, running, racing and biking with our dogs. We welcome people of all capabilities and every variety of dog, so why not come along and join us? You and your dog will love it and it helps to keep us all fit and healthy."
Speaking about the finer details of racing with your dogs, they continue: "Dogs taking part must be at least a year old on the day of the race. For your dogs comfort we suggest they run in a suitable harness, some equipment may be available for sale or hire on the day."
