BMW Berlin Marathon 2019

Time to commit as world record course beckons

Berlin calling for 2021 celebration of marathon running

BMW Berlin Marathon will run for the 47th time on 26th September 2021 and you could be there with one of Sports Tours International's comprehensive package tours.

Sports Tours International has been taking people to amazing events for almost 50 years and BMW Berlin Marathon is one of their most popular trips. Details have already gone to their priority notification list and with increased demand due to rollovers from 2020, booking early is the best way to guarantee entry and secure your preferred choice of accommodation.

Berlin never fails to deliver excitement as one of the Abbott World Marathon Majors on the world record course. The 46th edition saw a near-miss for Ethiopia's Kenenisa Bekele as he finished two seconds shy of Eliud Kipchoge's world record (2:01:39) set in 2018.

The flat, super-slick Berlin course boasts 11 world records – a world record itself! It was the scene of the first sub-2:05; 2:04; 2:03 and 2:02 marathons and has been the only men's world record venue since 2003. Berlin also facilitated three women's world marks since it was founded in 1974 by Berlin baker, Horst Milde, with 244 finishers in that inaugural race.

Hundreds of Britons were part of the record field of 46,983 from 150 nations last year. The top three men were Jonny Mellor (Liverpool Harriers, 2:12:29), Kevin Seaward (Cardiff/Ireland, 2:13:39) and Matt Clowes (2:13:57) – all recording PBs. The leading British women were Alison Lavender (Oswestry Olympians, 2:41:18 PB), Fiona Brian (Metro Aberdeen, 2:2:42:51 PB) and Charlotte Firth (Windsor/Edinburgh, 2:47:13).

Sports Tours International understands this has been a difficult and uncertain year with cancellations, postponements, refunds and rollovers creating all sorts of problems in the sports travel sector. But there is a brighter future and nothing better than travelling with reassurance, confidence and peace of mind before, during and after your trip.

Sports Tours International offers three, four or five nights at one of many excellent Berlin city centre hotels, all of which include daily breakfast. Race entry, medal engraving, pre-marathon massage, HD race video, finishers T-shirt, event shirt or race jacket are all available as bespoke additional extras.
