Back To Bennachie
The north east's Bennachie Hills will once again play host to some trail race action this autumn...
After a successful first year in 2023, the Bennachie Ultra Trail is back for 2024 on Saturday 12 October and will once again be staged alongside the Bennachie Ultra Marathon. Standing proudly over the Aberdeenshire countryside, Bennachie (Beinn na Cìche) is the North East of Scotland's most prominent range of hills, dominating the landscape for miles.
The 17.5 (ish) mile trail tace takes in some of the best trails the hill has to offer with over 3300ft of elevation gain. The route will see runners cover many of the peaks of the Bennachie Ultra, including Hermit Seat, Oxen Craig, Little Oxen, Craigshannoch and Mither Tap.
Organisers say: "It's not going to be a walk in the park, however should give you all a good taste of the full Ultra. There will be refreshments for you at the end in the Visitor Centre as well as a goodie bag and race memento."
If you're up for a bit more 'distance' then the Ultra Marathon offers 50K of beautiful paths, trails and amazing 360˚ views. The route takes in six of the peaks which make up the Bennachie Hills and has over 5000ft of elevation - a challenge for sure, but organisers are confident you'll find it worthwhile!
The race will be supported by Community Offroad Transport Action Group (COATG), organisers say: "We are extremely grateful for the support of COATG and as a non-profit event, they will be one of the local charities which will benefit from any proceeds which the race generates. Others will also be announced in due course."
