The Bennachie Ultra Marathon is a 50K hill race based at the Bennachie Visitor Centre in Aberdeenshire. The predominantly off road route explores the paths and trails of the Bennachie Hills, one of the most distinctive upland landscapes in the north east of Scotland.
Runners take on more than 5,000ft of elevation gain as the course visits six Bennachie peaks: Millstone Hill, Hermit Seat, Oxen Craig, Little Oxen, Craigshannoch and Mither Tap. Most of the route is off road, with sustained climbing and varied hill terrain making this a demanding ultramarathon despite the generally runnable trails.
The race is held under Scottish Hill Runners rules and mandatory kit must be carried throughout. A four hour cut off applies at approximately 19 miles, before runners continue into the later stages of the course, with the route eventually returning to the Bennachie Visitor Centre for the finish.
