The Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running will return on 27 September 2026 for its 24th edition, with organisers reporting strong early demand for one of the world’s most scenic marathon events.

Set in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon has built an international reputation for its unforgettable point-to-point 26.2 mile route along the southeastern shores of Loch Ness. The event continues to attract runners from across the UK and overseas, drawn by its dramatic scenery, supportive atmosphere and iconic finish in Inverness.

Alongside the marathon, the Festival of Running includes the Baxters River Ness 10K, which offers a fast and flat course through the centre of Inverness and along the River Ness, making it a popular choice for runners chasing personal bests. The Baxters River Ness 5K provides a shorter, accessible option suitable for all ages and abilities, ensuring the weekend caters for a wide range of runners.

Organisers commented: "We’re thrilled to see such strong demand for the 2026 event, with entries already flying in from around the world. The Baxters Loch Ness Marathon is truly a bucket list experience - not just for the incredible scenery, but for the energy, support, and spirit of the entire weekend.

"Whether you're a seasoned marathoner or taking on your first 5K, there's something magical about running in the Highlands. We can’t wait to welcome everyone to Inverness in September."

With places expected to sell out once again, runners keen to take part in the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon or Festival of Running in 2026 are encouraged to enter early to avoid disappointment.
