Getting the Ashby 20 road race underway

Ashby 20 springing into action in 2022

This tasty 20 miler is live again.

A regular fixture in the spring marathoner’s diary; the Aldi Ashby 20 takes place on Sunday 20 March 2022 with a hilly course, hoody and a popular food item amongst its delights. There is another reason to celebrate at next year’s event...

The global pandemic caused the 2020 race to be cancelled and in 2021, the restrictions saw organisers Ivanhoe Runners hold their first virtual Ashby 20. This virtual alternative kept more than 1,200 runners motivated and much needed funds were raised for local and national charities.

Charity is at the heart of the 2022 race which is supporting Teenage Cancer Trust, Wishes 4 Kids,
Heartwize for Runners and Hospice Hope.

Starting at 10am, runners complete a two lap course mainly on closed roads which is challenging yet scenic with enough hills to put the winter training to the test especially near the end when the effects of the second loop are starting to bite. They continue through villages, farms and pubs and there is plenty of encouragement from local residents as well as the marshals. You can also expect well stocked aid stations.

There is a cut off time due to the race being held on closed roads which is 2 hours 20 minutes at 10 miles.

Finishers are presented with the highly prized Ashby 20 hoody which changes colour each year and a goody bag containing everyone’s favourite – the cheese cob!  This is perfect for recovery as well as helping to commemorate the 30th anniversary - ‘take 2’ of this well respected and much in-demand race.
