Roller coaster 5 Mile race at Beacon Hill Country Park

Phoenix Trail Race Ready To Rise Again

Popular Beacon Solstice event aims to rise to the occasion on 16 June

On Friday 16 June it will be up, up and away for Rise of the Phoenix trail race as it takes flight over 5 picturesque miles in Beacon Hill Country Park. Organisers Poplar Running Club invites runners to be part of a challenging event where the views are simply breathtaking.....

Previously known as the Beacon Solstice Run, the hilly 5 miler was previously hosted by Jack Rabbit Events and they have given Poplar Running Club permission to bring it back to life. It is ready to fly in flaming June and there’s a medal, goody bag and free photos for every finisher.

The evening begins with a 1 Mile Fun Run at 6.30pm for 14 years and under. This is followed by Rise of the Phoenix 5 Mile at 7pm for entrants 15 years and upwards. Both races take place in one of Leicestershire’s scenic parks – Beacon Hill, with its woodland, heathland and grassland, on designated trails used by walkers and mountain bikers.

As a Phoenix rises from the ashes, participants will also be rising or in this case climbing. Their uphill endeavours begin early on as the runners head off from the lower car park and continue on the main path through the woods then rejoin the main path again. Have a quick look around from the summit of Beacon Hill which is 248m (814ft) in height before stretching the legs out on a long descent.

Then it’s up the other side of Beacon Hill, along an undulating loop at the top before the downhill section to the finish. Running up, down, up, down will put fitness and stamina levels to the test!

There are age category prizes and spot prizes: impressive medal, post-race beer (thumbs up!) and a gift, along with free images from Sharp Photography. There'll also be food stalls at the finish to replace all those calories burned during the race.

Finish work, get changed then tackle this 5 mile race in a beautiful location followed by a cold beer. What's not to like?
