Three Chances At Glory
Three is the magic number at this springtime race series which returns in 2025...
Babcock's back! Yes, the popular three-race series will return in 2025 with 10K events on offer in the usual locations - Glasgow Green, Dumbarton and Helensburgh. The good news is that if you enter before 31 December you can benefit from an early bird offers on series and individual entries.
The Babcock 10K Series will kick off with the Shettleston event on 11 May at Glasgow Green and will be followed by the Babcock 2K Family Fun Run. The Dumbarton event will take place on 22 May and the series will conclude at Helensburgh on 29 May. Dumbarton and Helensburgh are Thursday evening events with Shettleston on a Sunday morning.
This year’s series was a thrilling contest at all three venues with nearly 1300 runners taking part. Local man Lewis McAlpine outkicked clubmate Taha Ghafari in claiming the title for Shettleston clocking 32:03, in the first race on Glasgow Green whilst Natasha Phillips defended her title in eighth place overall in an impressive 33:21. Her series record remains 32:57 from last year. Olympic marathon runner, Sonia Samuels was runner up on this occasion just ahead of Fionnuala Ross, in 34:17 and 34:27.
Despite the runners being met by a deluge at Dumbarton, Jamie Burns whistled round the course in an impressive 30:37, relegating Taha Ghafari to runner up for the second race in a row. Nynke Mulholland-Stummer won the first of her two races at Dumbarton in 35:08 from Kara McKenzie-Tait in 36:19.
Last year’s winner from Shettleston, Calum Johnson of Gateshead made light work of the Helensburgh race in clocking the second fastest time ever in the series to come home in 29:41, edging ever closer to Weynay Ghebresilassie’s series record of 29:32. Nynke Mulholland-Stummer picked up her second title in a week in 35:37, holding off local emerging talent Emily Carroll who finished in 36:13.
If you fancy your chances in 2025 then it is good to note that there will be over £6,000 in cash and Start Fitness vouchers on offer across the series with each race winner receiving £200 in cash and a further £200 is on offer for both course and series records.
Every finisher will receive a unique commemorative medal and Start Fitness merchandise while series entrants will also receive special series t-shirt.
