Omar Ahmed & Kate Holt to start at Mid Cheshire 5K
A top quality field will have more than a spring in their step at the Mid Cheshire 5K as they compete for prize money and course records. Omar Ahmed and Kate Holt are amongst a stellar line up at one of the fastest 5Ks in the UK.
Only a few places remain in the Mid Cheshire 5K (spring) on 1 May with continuing sponsorship from Advanced Medical Solutions. A smoothly organised affair by Run Cheshire & Gogledd Cymru it is one of two races in Kingsley, the other their summer version on 28 August.
The super quick course has attracted several high profile figures that will go head to head for titles, prizes and PBs. Also of interest for the elites are the course records of 13:45 (men) and 15:38 (women) that are under threat from a number of athletes who have turned in impressive performances and times.
These include Omar Ahmed of Birchfield Harriers and his runaway victory at the Alsager 5 in 23:25. Eric Keogh of Donore Harriers AC posted a 23:21 at the Raheny 5 in Ireland, making him a contender and there are several others who could go sub-15 minutes or even sub-14 minutes.
England Athletics International Kate Holt of City of Stoke AC ran 16:12 at the 2018 race. She is in good form at present and a sub-16 showing could put her in sight of the women’s course record.
This chip-timed race is open to runners of all abilities including elite athletes, club runners and newcomers dipping their toe in the 5K water. It sells out rapidly as confirmed by race director Mike Harrington saying: “At current rates we will be full in a week or so.”
