The Mid-Cheshire 5K (Summer) has a reputation as one of the fastest races in the UK and attracts a quality field as a result. Runners from local clubs and further afield enjoy the challenge in this and the spring version on closed roads in a scenic location.

One of several events from Run Cheshire & Gogledd Cymru; it once again incorporated the England Athletics (EA) 5K Road Race Championships and the significance of this was reflected in the calibre of athletes taking part. A fiercely competitive race was expected for the men’s and women’s titles.

Runners were seeded according to their estimated finishing time, lining up in the coloured zones on Ball Lane ready to begin. Away they went at 7.15pm to speed their way around the single lap, mainly flat course in late summer sunshine, focused upon the job in hand.

Not far behind was Kurt Taylor of Bristol & West AC in 14:15 with three seconds separating him and Ben Brown of Southampton AC who finished third in 14:18.

It was a win and PB for Ellie Wallace who claimed the women’s title in 15:48. Lauren McNeil of Hallamshire Harriers Sheffield shortly followed in 15:50 with Jip Vastenburg of Stockport Harriers & AC third in 16:06.
