Doon Hame For A Top 10K
Dumfries Harriers' popular 10K event is back for 2022...
Tucked away in the south west of the country, Dumfries and Galloway has much to offer those looking for a getaway, the beaches of the Solway Coast and the Dark Skies Galloway Forest Park being just a couple of highlights. The area's capital - the market town of Dumfries has a thriving running scene and one of its big events is set to return this year.
Back on the race calendar after a two year absence, the Doonhamer 10K Road Race is organised by Dumfries Harriers and will take place the morning of 28 August in the town's Dock Park.
The event has a fast and flat course which starts and finishes in the beautifully refurbished Dock Park, beside the River Nith, the route was streamlined in 2019 to make it a PB-friendly course - and by all accounts it worked!
The 2019 race was won by Gary Flannighan in 36:30:97, while second place male went to Scott Sloan in 36:59:78 and third was claimed by local runner Alan Baxter of Dumfries Running Club in 38:41:87. First female was Marie Marshall of Annan and District AC in 43:22:82
The race traces the pathways alongside the River Nith and crosses the water several times using the Buccleuch Street, Suspension and Kirkpatrick MacMillan bridges. At Castledykes Park runners will be spurred on by pipers before heading back to Dock Park for a victory lap before crossing the finish line.
