Three kilometres, a lunch break and a couple of pounds for charity. Sometimes the simplest ideas in running are the best.
Glasgow's 3K on the Green returns on Friday 27 November, continuing a monthly tradition that has been giving runners a quick lunchtime challenge beside the Clyde for well over a decade.
The November race is the final scheduled fixture of 2026, bringing another year of short, sharp racing on Glasgow Green to a close.
Starting at 12:30pm near the McLennan Arch, runners follow the flat, accurately measured course upstream along the River Clyde for just over 1.5K before turning and heading back towards the finish near the boathouse.
It's a deceptively demanding distance. Short enough to squeeze into a lunch break, but long enough to leave even experienced runners wondering whether they started a little too enthusiastically.
The series has an established history. Race reports from 2013 show club runners battling for fast times, while the event has continued to welcome recreational runners and newcomers alongside its regular competitors.
Charity fundraising has always been central to the appeal. In 2022, more than 300 runners participated in at least one race, helping raise over £1,200 for good causes. That November's proceeds supported the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.
Organiser Alasdair Murray summed up the philosophy neatly in a previous runABC interview: every runner gets a number and a time, regardless of ability.
There are no enormous crowds or elaborate race villages here. Just an accurately measured 3K, friendly competition and the satisfaction of supporting charity.
For Glasgow runners, that's been more than enough to keep this little race going.
