The Worcestershire Beacon Race is a challenging seven mile mixed terrain event across the Malvern Hills, starting and finishing at Rose Bank Gardens in Great Malvern. The route climbs from the town onto the hills, passing St Ann's Well before heading towards the Worcestershire Beacon and continuing across the surrounding ridges and slopes.
Runners face a demanding course with steep ascents and descents across varied surfaces, including stony tracks, woodland paths and short sections of tarmac. The route reaches the summit of the Worcestershire Beacon, the highest point in the Malvern Hills, before taking in North Hill and returning towards Great Malvern. Significant climbing and uneven ground make pacing, climbing strength and confident descending important throughout the race.
Organised by Worcester Athletic Club, the Worcestershire Beacon Race is a long established fixture on the local running calendar. Its combination of sustained climbs, varied terrain and expansive views across the surrounding countryside creates a distinctive challenge, with the landscape of the Malvern Hills at the heart of the event.
