Weybridge 10K warm up

Cordelia defies our preview to smash course record

That Running Guy shows us around the Weybridge 10K course

The delayed Weybridge 10K finally hit the road on Sunday 5th December 2021, with 800 competing in this joint AAT Events/The Race Organiser promotion that normally occupies a balmy mid-summer slot in the calendar.

The overcast conditions and cold wind resulted in temperatures that felt barely above freezing, particularly for the 23 children in the 2K Fun Run that opened the programme. The aptly named Chase Kapotwe (7:29) was never caught and Hannah Ratigan (9:18) was the first girl in fourth overall.

Next, it was time for the 10K competitors to complete the traditional start line warm-up routine (pictured above) before setting off for two laps of the course alongside the River Thames, through the town centre and Oatlands Park, following the powerful roar of the lead car provided by Porsche Centre Brooklands.

Four men finished inside 34 minutes: William Hagalid (33:08), M40 Gary Armstrong (Ranelagh Harriers, 33:13), James Gamble (Woking AC, 33:56) and Craig Shand (33:58).

The women's winner set a new course record. Cordelia Parker (Abingdon/Ranelagh Harriers, 35:41) took more than a minute off her personal best to defeat Carla Molinaro (Clapham Chasers, 38:06) and W40 Zoe Cowell-Jones (38:19). In our race preview we said the course record set by Hannah Pullen (Waverley Harriers, 37:40) in 2019 would take some beating!

For a terrific view of the event and course, you can join popular YouTuber Chris McKeown (Woking) with his trusty Insta360 Go2 as he nurses a dodgy hamstring to 40:43 in this race Vlog

Almost 40 runners beat 40 minutes; at least 250 were inside 50 minutes and over 700 were under the hour.
