Wings For Life In The North

Wings for Life World Run returns to the North of the country in 2025 with a race experience like no other...

The Wings for Life World Run is back for its 11th edition on 4 May, bringing runners together from all corners of the globe for a truly unique challenge. Unlike traditional races, this event has no set finish line - participants run as far as they can before being caught by the Virtual Catcher Car. The beauty of the race lies in its inclusivity, with everyone considered a finisher, no matter the distance they cover.

The event allows runners and wheelchair participants to race side by side, whether they are in the same city or connected virtually through the Wings for Life World Run App. Friends, families and colleagues can form teams and take on the challenge together, even if they’re in different locations.

Runners in the North are invited to locations in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Durham and Leeds to take on the race together. The event will start at 12.00pm in each location and will follow a 5K loop along a tarmac path. The Virtual Catcher Car begins its pursuit 30 minutes later, starting at 14 km/h and gradually increasing speed until every last participant has been caught. The Newcastle and Durham courses are yet to be announced, but the Leeds location is Roundhay Lake in the north of the city.

With no pressure to hit a certain time or distance, this event is open to all fitness levels, inviting everyone to take part in a global movement for a cause. What makes this race even more special is its commitment to spinal cord injury research. Every penny of the entry fees and donations goes directly to fund groundbreaking research projects, ensuring that every step taken helps move science forward.

Organisers say: "Whether you’re chasing a personal best or simply soaking up the atmosphere, one thing is certain - this is a race where everyone wins."
