Garden of running delights at Trentham

Trentham Gardens parkrun makes the top 10

One of the biggest UK parkruns this weekend.

548 people showed Trentham Gardens some love on Saturday (23 April) and helped it to tenth place in the UK parkrun attendance stats for the weekend. This event takes pride of place alongside big ticket parkruns such as Bushy Park and Poole that regularly appear in the top 10.

The newest member of the Staffordshire parkrun family, Trentham Gardens has already attracted a loyal following who take delight in the beautiful surroundings and friendly, supportive atmosphere. Credit goes to the Run Director and team of volunteers who have worked tirelessly to deliver a well organised and attended event that people look forward to on Saturday mornings.

This was the second largest turnout: 557 ran, jogged or walked at the inaugural Trentham Gardens parkrun on 5 February this year and it is a ‘must do’ for parkrun tourists. The location speaks for itself with the award-winning Italian Gardens, sculptures and lake and there is plenty to see and do afterwards.

Regulars and visitors made the most of the scenic, one-lap course on light gravel paths that took them around the lake and through the gardens. Flat for the first 1.5 miles then an incline for half a mile followed by a downhill section to the finish.

Jacob Droogmans of Newcastle (Staffs) AC was the first man home in 17:00 – the third time he has finished the fastest male at this event. Holly Chipman was the first female in 20:30 and a new PB.

Milestones and PB’s were celebrated over a post-run coffee (and cake!) at The Rotisserie.

Trentham Gardens parkrun continues to blossom. Join in the fun next Saturday 30 April at 9am.
