The Big School Run

What I Go To School For!

Relive your youth and head back to school for some running fun this August...

This summer you can relive your youth and go back to school, with the help of Curly's Athletes and the second staging of their Big School Run. The concept is simple, participants are invited to run solo or in a team of eight and complete as many 5K laps in a 12 hour period as they can.

Taking place at the majestic Worksop College on 5 August, the race action occurs around a fantastic mixed surface 5K route, through the picturesque school grounds. Speaking of the challenge, organisers said: "A runner can do as many laps as they want within the 12 hours. So set a target and smash it ! When you're ready to call it a day then we've got your medal ready for you."

Worksop College dates back to the 19th century when the school was founded by Victorian Educational Reformer, Canon Nathaniel Woodard. A generous gift of land from the Duke of Newcastle’s Clumber Estate has been extended over the years to provide the 330-acre estate on which the College stands today.

And so it is clear that this is no ordinary school and with the invitation to make a night of it you can live out a Harry Potter fantasy. There is the option to camp, motorhome or even stay in one of the boarding houses and you can self cater or join the team for a magnificent evening meal and cooked breakfast.

The inaugural event took place in 2022 with organisers commenting: "This was our best event in 2022, and our fanciest (it was also our only event with a post run bar, we don't think the two are linked!). Join us solo or as a team, then join us for an evening of celebration in the great hall!"
