A Marathon With The Thames For Company
Thames Meander Spring returns on 7 March 2027 with three flat riverside races offering a very different London running experience...
This relates to: Thames Meander Spring
London has some of the world's biggest road races, but you don't need enormous crowds or closed city streets to enjoy a memorable run in the capital. Thames Meander Spring takes a rather different approach, offering three distances along the River Thames with the emphasis firmly on relaxed surroundings, friendly competition and plenty of riverside scenery.
Organised by Hermes Running, the event returns on Sunday 7 March 2027 with Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K distances. Starting and finishing at Small Profit Dock Gardens in Barnes, runners cross Barnes Bridge before following the Thames Path towards Kew Gardens and Richmond. The 10K turns near Kew Gardens, while Half Marathon runners continue towards Petersham and Ham Sea Scouts. Marathon competitors complete two laps of the Half Marathon route.
The courses are predominantly flat and runnable, making them appealing to runners chasing a quick time without the bustle of a major city marathon. Although classified as trail races, the routes follow established riverside paths rather than demanding mountain or woodland terrain. There are well stocked checkpoints, marshals and medical support along the way, with the out and back format also providing opportunities for runners to encourage one another.
Thames Meander has developed into an established series, with Spring, Summer and Autumn editions all scheduled for 2027. The Spring event provides an early season opportunity to test marathon fitness, tackle a first Half Marathon or enjoy a shorter 10K beside one of Britain's most famous rivers.
Entries are already open for all three distances, giving runners plenty of time to make the Thames part of their 2027 racing plans.
