Luke Traynor winning Manchester Half Marathon

Tewelde and Traynor Get Set For Big Spanish Date

Scots Tsegai Tewelde and Luke Traynor are included in the five-man British team heading to Valencia for the World Half Marathon Championships later this month. Shettleston Harrier Tewelde goes to Spain on the back of a strong showing at last weekend's Big Half Marathon and takes with him all the experience of an Olympic marathoner.

Traynor on the other hand has completed his training at altitude in Mammoth Lakes, California. The Giffnock North ace reports racking up consistent, high quality training blocks with good results and believes his fortunes are changing after problems with injury and illness.

Traynor reckons that his experience of top-class competition on the US collegiate circuit has honed his speed and tactical awareness and training alongside top US athletes such as Daniel Tapia, a seasoned 2:12 marathoner, has taken his performance to a new level. Luke's 61:55 at the recent Barcelona Half Marathon provided evidence for this view.

Traynor is hoping that his increasing profile as a top endurance runner will attract a major sponsor and give him the platform to join Callum Hawkins and Andy Butchart as a regular competitor at the important international races and the big championships.
