Mouth watering medal to tempt runners for the Virtual Wilmslow Festive 10K
Generous prize list and a limited edition medal means there is all to run for.
A one-of-a-kind medal awaits participants in the Virtual Wilmslow Festive 10K, 5K & Junior 2K; a tasty reward for their efforts in this Christmas-themed event acting as a replacement for the live race which has been postponed to November 2021 as a result of the ongoing situation with Covid-19. the 2020 virtual event begins on Sunday 29 November and runs until Thursday 31 December.
Run North West have adapted to the crisis by devising a series of virtual races – this being one of them – and these have provided a focus for many runners. There is a gingerbread man medal up for grabs in this virtual race and, to appeal to the competitive runner, prizes for the top three men and women, top three wheelchair men and women and age group winners. The latter can view the leaderboard to see what times they need to be in with a chance of a prize.
As the race is held throughout Christmas, participants are encouraged to wear themed fancy dress to get into the festive spirit in spite of the restrictions and share their photos on social media. They run or walk on a course of their own choosing and at a time to suit them and record their session using a GPS watch or fitness tracker which they then upload. Medals will be posted out within a week of their submission or can be collected next Sunday (29 November) which was the scheduled date for the live race.
The Wilmslow Festive 10K has, over the last three years, raised more than £60,000 for Manchester hospital, The Christie. Entrants to the virtual race can still help by fundraising or opting to run for The Christie who like many other charities has struggled in 2020.
