Second Chance To Run Union Canal Races
Originally scheduled for September 2022, if you missed the boat - then now's the time to grab your spot at this anniversary run...
If you fancied the Union Canal Anniversary Run in 2022, but 'missed the boat' then now is your chance to remedy that! The event, originally scheduled for 10 September, was postponed due to the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the new date of 5 March is almost upon us so you'll need to be quick.
The Falkirk Wheel has been amazing visitors from around the world since it opened back in 2002. It is a remarkable feat of engineering and somewhere that many Scots have on their bucket list of places to visit. So why not combine a trip to the rotating boat lift with a race day to remember?
UK Running Series, in a joint-collaboration with Scottish Canals are planning the inaugural Scottish Canals Challenge. The first event in the series will take place at the Falkirk Wheel taking in the Union Canal and the remaining three events will take place at the Forth & Clyde Canal, Crinan Canal and Caledonian Canal.
A spokesperson from UK Running Series said: "Join us in the festivities as we celebrate the 200th anniversary of Union Canal and the 20th anniversary of Falkirk Wheel with a run along the canal. The event is open to athletes of all abilities and includes a Half Marathon, 10K & 5K for adults and 3K & 1K fun run for juniors."
The course is slightly hilly at the Falkirk Wheel but flatter on the canal, and is suitable for participants of all physical abilities. The course is traffic free, but will be open to public who may be walking or biking along the canal - no bad thing as they will be there to cheer runners on their way.
Make a day of it, with races to suit everyone in the family, you can also enjoy all the fun activities that the Falkirk Wheel has on offer such as the Mini Canal and Water Play Park, Water Activity Zone, Cycle Hire, Water Zorbing, Canoeing, Boat trips and Woodland Walks.
