Fun, Flat & Fast In Falkirk
Central Scotland's newest half marathon has a few places left, but you'll need to be quick...
Did we mention that there is a new half marathon for Central Scotland this winter? Plenty of runners have already signed up for the inaugural Falkirk Half Marathon scheduled to take place on 20 November, but organisers have told us that there are still some places left. The event is expected to be a sell-out, so if you want to be a part of the action, you know what to do.
Starting and finishing at Falkirk Stadium, the scenic and flat route will pass some of the town's most famous landmarks, including Callendar House, the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel. Organisers say: "The route is extremely scenic, generally flat and follows the canal path for which Falkirk and the surrounding area is so well known." You can find out more details about the route on the illustrative map available on the event website.
Organisers stress that they ‘pride themselves on being inclusive’ and encourage both seasoned athletes and first-timers to enter. They have also confirmed that the route will be accurately measured and suitable for all abilities – or, in their words, ‘suited for fast running as well as being picturesque for those who prefer to run at a more leisurely pace’.
Entries to the half-marathon include a finishers’ medal and goodie bag, on-course entertainment zones, chip-timing and access to the post-event finishers’ village where there will be wood-fired Neapolitan pizza from Mangiamo and delicious coffees from Flat Flat White!
There is of course still plenty of time until race day itself, but with places rapidly diminishing if you want to be at the startline in Falkirk Stadium then you better get your skates on and sign up! Entries to the closed-road event will be limited to 2000 and will be available online until 17 November – unless the event sells out first. To find out more, visit the event website here.
