Forest Of Dean Spring Trails Half Marathon

Spring Into A Half

Finally, spring is here unless we are tempting fate. Blue skies, sunshine and temperatures reaching double figures are a recipe for a fine weekend (7-8 April) of half marathons.

We begin with the Forest of Dean Spring Trails Half Marathon which was rescheduled from the 18 March due to the ‘Beast from the East’. It starts at 10am from the Speech House Hotel, Coleford in Gloucestershire on a scenic route along pathways and forest trails. There is a medal and T-shirt for every finisher and ice cream afterwards if the weather is kind.

It’s over to Rutland Water on Sunday for their Spring Half Marathon held on a mostly tarmac course with a few footpaths so either a road or trail shoe will do. The race is held in one of the most picturesque locations in the East Midlands, known for its nature reserves, water sports and cycling trails. Why not bring the family and make a day of it?

Hose in Leicestershire is the setting for Belvoir Half Marathon and 4.5 Mile Fun Run. The race passes through gently rolling countryside and the route is along quiet rural roads with mild undulations; this makes it ideal for anyone wanting a good test before tapering ahead of London Marathon.

Staying in a rural area with some semi-rural sections is Solihull Half Marathon. It is the second year of this race from KP Events with runners following a scenic, one lap, undulating route around the town that starts and finishes at Blythe Valley Park. There are trophies for the first, second and third men and women with goody bags and medals for every finisher.
