Conquer the Continents: South America MedalImage: Mash Running

Get the carnival spirit in the Virtual South America 5

Time to celebrate as the series nears its final destination

Christ the Redeemer is the focus of attention on the medal for South America 5 Miles, the next to last stop in the ‘Conquer the Continents’ virtual series from Mash Running. This bespoke medal is the reward for completing 5 miles or more in this samba inspired event.

This virtual world tour has reached South America, the fourth largest continent in the world. This is home to famous landmarks including Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Sugar Loaf Mountain, Macchu Picchu, Angel Falls and Patagonia. The Amazon River, the second largest in the world flows through the northern section.

The global pandemic has severely impacted upon international travel and the only way to visit the Amazon is by placing an order with the well-known online retailer. However, participants are sure to engage with this as with the rest of the virtual series, journeying from one continent to another and collecting the bespoke medals as they run/walk/cycle/swim the distance.

Participants sign up and complete 5 miles at a time and pace to suit them. They must follow government guidance which is to stay local for exercise, continue to practise social distancing and avoid meeting in large groups. The 5 miles can be completed on a home treadmill if preferred and there is the option to break it down into chunks, for example, laps around the garden.

A screen shot of the completed session, link to Strava data or a photo of a GPS watch or Fitbit are acceptable forms of evidence and selfies are encouraged! Medals are posted out a week to 10 days later.

Entries are open for the South America 5 Mile Virtual via the Mash Running website.
