Sheffield Ignites Run For All’s Half Marathon Season

Showcasing the very best of the city with a scenic route that incorporates stunning views of the Peak District, plus a bumper field that will see many fundraise for charity, the Asda Foundation Sheffield Half Marathon is the ideal event to kick-start Run For All’s half marathon season.

Next weekend (Sunday 8 April) will see runners embark on a route that moves out of the city centre and along Ecclesall Road. The course then climbs up Knowle Lane and Ringinglow Road to reach a section of the course offering superb views of the Peak District.

A key feature of the event, which enjoys a city centre start and finish, is a climb which takes the field into the hills above Sheffield and the Peak District. The scenic route also incorporates a triple challenge giving entrants a chance to be crowned ‘King or Queen of the Hill’ in a timed hill climb, triumph in a largely downhill 10K sprint section and cross the finish line first to lift the Sheffield Half Marathon title.

One of those taking part is fundraiser John “the man with the pram” Burkhill, who will be completing his 1,000th event to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Featured in runABC North last week, the Handsworth pensioner, who cuts a distinctive figure pushing a pram while wearing a bright green wig, has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for the charity.
