scottishathletics offers clubs help & advice on finances

scottishathletics has just announced several ways they can help member clubs who might find themselves struggling financially as a result of the Coronavirus crisis.

While some will be able to offset the loss of income (from events or member fees) with a reduction in expected expenditure (like facility and bus hire) the sport’s governing body appreciates that for others, the impact may be more significant.

Clubs who would like support in planning their finances for the year ahead, or are concerned about their immediate viability, are invited to contact their National Club Manager at the earliest opportunity for help and advice.

scottishathletics is currently working with sportscotland and the Scottish Government to understand what financial support may be available to sports clubs and charities (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisations). Any information that becomes available will be communicated to member clubs immediately.

scottishathletics is also reminding clubs with charitable status that they can claim Gift Aid on donations, potentially including their membership fees. If your club has charitable status and is not yet claiming Gift Aid, you are invited to contact scottishathletics’ partners BDO for an initial review.

BDO offers member clubs a significantly reduced fee to help them set up for claiming – and maximizing their return on – Gift Aid. Clubs already claiming Gift Aid can also call BDO to discuss whether they may be able to increase their return.

scottishathletics has also announced that Tru Wealth, new sponsors of the Tru Wealth Road Race Series and individual athletes, have launched their a new initiative for member clubs. ‘Cash4Clubs’ is a funding scheme giving athletes, their friends and family the chance to earn cash back for their clubs to improve facilities, purchase new equipment, gain coaching qualifications and invest in the sustainability of their club.

As a reward for any business successfully referred to Tru Wealth – and where the referral has been noted – they’ll make a payment of £100 to your club on completion of the transaction.

The type of services provided by Tru Wealth include Financial Planning, Mortgage Advice, Life Insurance, Income Protection, Critical Illness Cover and Private Medical Insurance in association with Vitality UK.
