Medal And Mug from Nightmare 10

Scarily good runs at Nightmare 10

There was a choice of outrunning zombies or the wolf at the Halloween-themed Nightmare 10 event this weekend (27-28 October). And the hills were terrifying too!

The Nightmare 10 from Trimax Events was held over two days with races designed to be frighteningly good fun for both adults and children. Halloween fancy dress was encouraged and proudly displayed by runners and volunteers lurking in the woods who scared everyone as they completed one, two or three 5k laps.

Saturday evening saw the Spooky Glow Run Kids 5K and Adults 5K and 10K races. These were held on trails lit by glow sticks and decorated with appropriately themed props, e.g. headstones and required a head torch due to the later start time of 6.30pm. Adding to the fun were volunteers dressed as zombies who hid in the trees and jumped out in front of the runners as a way of motivating them along the route.

On Sunday morning at 11am were the Spooky 10K and 10 miles on a scenic, hilly course in Huntley, Gloucestershire consisting of gravel and muddy trails, fields and a graveyard. There was a steep climb at the start and another couple of ascents in the Forest of Dean that were described as ‘brutal’ by one runner.

On offer were trophies and prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female in all races and a bespoke medal for every finisher. The first 20 people across the line in Sunday’s races received a ‘beat the wolf’ T-shirt.
