Help Make Sawston Big In 2025
With its welcoming atmosphere, important fundraising mission and deep community roots, the Sawston Fun Run & Walk continues to grow...
Now in its 39th year, the Sawston Fun Run will return on 11 May. More than just a race, it’s a celebration of togetherness and a driving force for positive change across the region. With roots going back to 1986, the event has already raised an astonishing £545,000 for local charities, organisations and initiatives.
Speaking of the event, organisers commented: "This year we are aiming high - with hopes of smashing our all-time participation record of 1,480 entrants and raising a landmark £15,000 for local causes! Whether you run, walk, jog or cheer from the sidelines, everyone plays a role in what has become a highlight of the Cambridgeshire community calendar."
The competitive course for adults and secondary school pupils is the traditional long route of 7.4K while the short route of 3.8K is for younger children to participate in. The 2024 race saw Freddy Bennett of Sawston cross the line as first male finisher in 25:45, with Caitlin Wade of Trumpington claiming the women’s title in 29:59.
2024’s event was hailed as one of the best ever, with sunny skies, record-breaking entries and a total of £14,000 raised for 24 local causes. Event founder and long-time organiser Gerry Holloway reflected on its impact: “The Sawston Fun Run is more than just a race - it’s a day filled with excitement and purpose, surrounded by family and friends, all coming together to support these exceptional causes.”
