American athletes add class to Saucony London 10K...

There was a mid-race smacker for Louis Facey (#10771) as he powered his way to a sub-60-minute finish in the Saucony London 10K on Sunday 14 July 2024. Louis (pictured above) was through 5K in 28:03 en route to finishing 6,523rd in 59:22 – with 6,367 runners behind him!

With 12,890 finishers this was a huge event organised by the LimeLight Sports Club/Motiv Running, starting near Buckingham Palace and passing Westminster Bridge, London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, Big Ben and Trafalgar Square before the finish on Whitehall, just past Downing Street.

Live bands, DJs and cheering crowds kept the motivation levels high along the route through central London in one of the capital's biggest annual road races.

Barry Mitchell (59:28) was impressed with the event, posting this on Facebook: "Great event, well organised, loved the route and I ran my best by 4 minutes, my first 'official' and timed run. Totally proud of my personal achievement but also so wonderful to see so much love, people coming together, cheering each other on, total strangers chatting, cheering, supporting each other, there is hope for the human race, I still haven't stopped smiling. Well done to every single person involved in today's event. I'll be back next year."

The elite winners this year were Seyfu Jamaal (London Heathside, 29:41) and USA athlete Aubrey Frentheway (32:51), who ran 32:28.85 for 10,000m on the track last year and 4:44.99 for a mile earlier this year.

The men's race saw three athletes inside 30 minutes as US Olympian Jared Ward (29:44) and Matthew Sharp (Ryde Harriers, 29:47) pushed Jamaal to the finish line.

In the women's race, there was another American in fine form as Vanessa Fraser finished second in 33:24, with Becky Briggs (City of Hull AC, 34:34) 70 seconds in arrears in third.

Almost 500 athletes beat 40 minutes on the fast, closed-road course.
