Strathaven Striders Run With The Wind 10K 2026

The Wind Has Changed Direction In Strathaven

Strathaven Striders' Run With The Wind 10K returns on 1 November on a very different course from the race that gave the event its memorable name...

Run With The Wind is a brilliant name for a race. The curious thing is that the Strathaven 10K no longer follows the route that inspired it.

When the event began in 2007, runners were transported out of Strathaven to a high start near Whitelee Wind Farm before racing back towards town. Contemporary reports describe around 200 runners taking part in that inaugural race, with the field growing to around 350 the following year.

The modern version is rather different.

Since 2023, Strathaven Striders have used an officially measured out and back course to the north of town. The 2026 race returns on Sunday 1 November, taking runners through rolling farming countryside on quiet, undulating roads before bringing them back towards Strathaven.

Race headquarters will be at Strathaven Bowling Club, with the 10:00am start near Kirkland Park School. Pipers and marshals will guide runners from registration to the start.

Last year's runners discovered that the old name can still be appropriate. Contemporary race reports describe blustery conditions on an already testing, undulating course.

There are 300 places available for 2026 and entries remain open. The race is chip timed and held under UK Athletics rules with a Scottish Athletics licence, while a finisher T-shirt returns this year.

Almost two decades after runners first came down from the wind farm, the buses and original point-to-point route have gone.

The name, thankfully, hasn't.
