Alton Towers 5K and 10K 2026

Race The Rides Before You Ride Them

Run Alton Towers opens its 2026 weekend on 14 November with 5K, 10K and Junior races inside the theme park before the rides take over...

This relates to: Run Alton Towers 5K & 10K

Most Saturday morning races don't come with the prospect of a rollercoaster afterwards. Run Alton Towers is rather different.

Saturday 14 November is the shorter-distance day of the 2026 running weekend, with a 10K at 10:00am, 5K at 10:20am and Junior Race at 11:30am. The Half Marathon is reserved for Sunday, putting the Saturday emphasis firmly on shorter races and families.

All three races take place inside Alton Towers Resort, with the 5K and 10K following tarmac paths and roads around the theme park and starting and finishing in front of The Towers.

The 10K gets the morning underway and includes a water station at approximately halfway, before the 5K follows 20 minutes later. The Junior Race completes the programme at 11:30am, giving younger runners their own opportunity to race inside one of Britain's best-known theme parks.

There is chip timing for the 5K and 10K, with free race photographs, a themed medal and post-race goodies also included. Buggy runners and wheelchair athletes are welcome to participate.

The unusual part comes after the running. Race entry includes access to the theme park and rides for the remainder of the day, so crossing the finish line doesn't necessarily mean it is time to head home.

For families in particular, Saturday offers a neat proposition: race in the morning, collect the medal and then swap running shoes for rollercoasters.

Whether tired legs will appreciate that final part is another matter.

Entries are available now via the runABC race hub.
