Doggone It!
Last call for the snowdrop special in Gatton Park…
The stunning Gatton Park, landscaped by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown between 1762 and 1766, is the sublime venue for the Run Reigate Winter Trail Race and Canicross this Sunday 18 February 2024 and there may still be a few last-minute numbers available – entries close today (Friday 16 February). Don't mention it to your four-legged friend, though, as the popular Canicross event is already fully sold out – doggone it!
Late entries are £30 and for that small fee you can enjoy a choice of 5K or 10K route – simply decide on the day whether to run one loop (5K) or two loops (10K) – plus a secure bag drop; chip timing and live results; quality refreshments; post-race goodies; fabulous medal and on-site parking can be pre-booked for £4 (with 100% of proceeds going to the Gatton Trust charity).
Last year saw almost 300 runners plus 130 Canicross competitors with assorted pooches in action. The 5K winner was Euen Willis (Reigate Priory AC, 17:47). In third place overall was Katie Foss (Crawley AC, 22:25) – both competing in the under-18 age group. In the 10K race, the winners were Luke Woodards (unattached, 42:09) and Jolene Wills (Tri Surrey Triathlon Club, 45:07).
The Canicross was a high-quality affair with some super-fit athlete/hound pairings. The leading 5K runners were Crawley AC's Ben Short (16:35) and Mari Laidlaw (W40, 17:59). The 10K times were even more impressive with Alton Sport's Toby Lambert (M40, 30:08) and Georgie Lambert (36:49) showing great canine handling skills combined with athleticism.
Run Reigate Winter Trail Race and Canicross is managed by Run Series Events whose stated aims are to bring communities and businesses together by providing sporting experiences that are immersive, friendly, and open to everyone (and their dog)!
The Run Series portfolio also includes Run Gatwick 10K (Sunday 12 May) and the original Run Reigate Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, and Kids Races on Sunday 22 September 2024.
