Rochdale 5K Backs Samantha Smith Appeal

Well-known race organiser and charity fundraiser Andy O'Sullivan has a new cause. The ex-policeman who was awarded the MBE in 2005 is staging the Samantha Smith 5K to support the 31-year-old single mother who has been diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS).

The fund raising 5k - the full title is the Samantha Smith Health Appeal Cowm 5K - will see runners and walkers complete two laps of Cowm Reservoir. The race is set for Sunday 18 February 2018 from the Cock & Magpie Pub, Whitworth, Rochdale with a 11.15am start time. Entries are priced at a modest £6 (£4 affiliated) and there will be a 1 Mile race at 11.00am.

Samantha Smith ran a business just off Deansgate in Manchester as a psychotherapist until her diagnosis earlier last year. Her condition - Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) - means that her brain and spinal cord are being crushed under the weight of her skull. The complex surgery to help her is not available on the National Health Service so family and friends are now working hard to raise money to fund treatment.
