The River Ayr Way Challenge is organised by Ayrshire360 and takes place in Ayrshire. First held in 2006, the event celebrates its twentieth anniversary in 2026 and offers both a 40 Mile Ultra Marathon and relay following the full length of the River Ayr Way, Scotland's first source to sea long distance trail.
The point to point route starts at Glenbuck Loch and follows woodland trails, riverside paths, forest tracks, quiet country roads and open countryside before finishing at Riverside Stadium in Ayr. The constantly changing terrain, rich wildlife and historic landscapes make it one of Scotland's most distinctive endurance events, while relay teams can divide the course into sections to share the challenge.
Water stations, fully stocked checkpoints, baggage transfer, transport to the start and experienced marshals help provide excellent support throughout the day. The memorable journey across Ayrshire, outstanding organisation and unique point to point format have established the River Ayr Way Challenge as one of Scotland's best known ultra distance events.
