Race the Train is an 11 Mile point to point trail race from Bury to Rawtenstall in Lancashire. Starting at Bolton Street Railway Station, runners follow trails alongside the East Lancashire Railway and the River Irwell while attempting to keep pace with a heritage steam train travelling along the route.
The course follows a mix of riverside and railway side trails through the Irwell Valley before finishing in Rawtenstall. Its combination of trail running, point to point racing and the unique challenge of competing against a steam train makes it one of the North West's most distinctive running events.
