Marching Up To Skye
Experience the magic of the Isle of Skye in March 2025...
You'd be hard pushed to find a more aesthetically pleasing place to run than Skye so it is not a surprise that the scenic island is home to a number of running events. One of these events is Race Dunvegan, which will return in 2025 on 29 March.
Dunvegan Castle is a stunning location to run. Nestled on the shores of Loch Dunvegan on Skye, it’s the ancestral home of the MacLeods, one of the oldest and most powerful clans in Scotland. Race Dunvegan incorporates a beautiful mixed terrain 10K, 5K, Walking 5K and 2K Fun Run with all the races starting in the castle's magnificent grounds.
Organisers say: "Unleash your wild side and embrace the rugged beauty of this imposing ancient castle, the loch side setting which will take your breath away, and the beautiful forest trails."
The 10K race provides runners an opportunity to run on different surfaces over an undulating course. Organisers have been fortunate to secure access to this amazing location, whilst still closed to the public before the season starts. This mixed terrain event starts in the magnificent grounds of Dunvegan Castle taking runners through the beautiful woodlands of the estate.
The Dunvegan Castle 5K has a fun course that is suitable for all abilities and will be enjoyed by anyone who thrives in a fun, supportive and welcoming race while the Dunvegan Castle Fun Run is an exclusive opportunity for runners of all ages to enjoy a 2K course through woodlands.
After your race, you can relax and enjoy delicious food at the Macleod Tables Cafe before enjoying more of the breathtaking location; after all the estate is home to several Special Areas of Conservation and Sites of Special Scientific Interest stretching from Loch Dunvegan in the north to the Black Cuillin mountains in the south.
