Winter Running In Derbyshire
Your winter running plans are taken care of with this Derbyshire series...
Derbyshire's Hope Valley is home to some of the best fell races in the UK and once again will play host to the The Outside Winter Race Series with six races for participants to enjoy over the 2024/2025 winter period.
The races are supported by Outside and Rab, with proceeds from the races going to help to fund local schools and charities. Male and female winners from each race/age category will win prizes from the companies, and the fastest male and female runners who have completed all the races will bag a Rab Kinetic Ultra jacket to make their cold weather running a breeze!
Up first, and not long to go now, is the Curbar Commotion on 5 October. This a BM fell race, held in the beautiful village of Curbar in Derbyshire and is a great event to kick off the series.
It will be followed by the Hathersage Night Race on 12 November. Organisers say: "What could be better than a 5 mile run followed by a pie and pea supper and a glass of beer? A 5 mile run followed by a pie and pea supper, a beer and a talk by Mike Hartley, previous holder of the Pennine Way and Coast to Coast FKT’s." Sounds like lots of fun.
The Baslow Bolt will take place on 30 November and will see participants race the Baslow skyline, with 12K of mixed terrain and 400m of ascent! The route begins in Baslow at St Anne's Church by the River Derwent, and ends at Baslow St Anne’s Primary School, where all local supporters congregate to cheer runners home.
Into the New Year and the Hathersage Hibernator will see participants congregate on 1 January. A smidge under 24K with around 800m of ascent, this one starts and finishes at Hathersage CofE Primary School.
The Winter Half Tour of Bradwell will take place some time in February with the final event - the Grindleford Gallop - scheduled for 15 March. The infamous challenge through the hills of the Peak District, covers around 35K and 850m of ascent with famous landmarks on the way round including the Riley Graves, Longstone Moor, The Monsal Trail and of course the stunning Chatsworth Park Estate.
