Charity of the Week

Running family plus the dog enjoys the Harborough Santa Run in wintry conditions

Race Harborough Santa Run

This Christmas event is open to two and four legged runners.

Welland Park in Market Harborough is the place to be on Sunday 19 December where adults, children and dogs will take part in the Harborough Santa Run. Expect a sea of red apart from one participant who will be dressed as a Christmas pudding with everyone else invited to try and beat him for charity.

The Santa Run is organised by Race Harborough with a choice of two distances – 5K and 2K – both of which you can run or walk and pooches are welcome too. There is a prize for the Best Dressed Dog making it a good reason for your pooch to wear a festive outfit! Staying with the theme, an Elf will be handing out Christmas treats to children.

The fun begins at 2pm on the drive which is the entrance to the park. Runners/walkers complete one (2K) or three (5K) loop/s around the outskirts of the park on a route well signed and marshalled. Marshals will provide plenty of cheer and encouragement and every finisher receives a medal at the end.

As regards the Christmas pudding participant...any runner who beats him to the finish wins £100 to be donated to the charity of their choosing. Squires Effect is the charity for this event and participants are welcome to fundraise or donate to this wonderful local charity.

Whether we have any of the white stuff on the day is in the hands of the weather gods but you never know...

The Race Harborough website has more information and entry to the Santa Run and the 12 Days of Christmas Virtual Challenge beginning on the 25 December. The Challenge is to motivate people into keeping active during the festivities and with a goal to work towards.
