New Races Heading To Kinloss
A brand new running festival comes to the north east later in the year...
A brand new running festival is planned for the north east, with a late summer/early autumn date. The inaugural Kinloss Running Festival will take place over the weekend of 31 August/1 September and will include distances ranging from 1K up to Half Marathon as well as a Back Yard Ultra.
The event will be hosted within Kinloss Barracks on the Moray coast with the races utilising the barrack's roads and runways! The barracks are located in the village of Kinloss, on the B9089 just three miles north-east of Forres.
The Back Yard Ultra involves a 4.1 mile loop on the hour every hour until just one runner remains. The route will see runners tackle mixed terrain, including roads, forest trails and sandy tracks around the eastern side of Kinloss Barracks Training Area.
The Half Marathon route is an ‘out and back’ that will use the runway, taxiways and perimeter road around the airfield within Kinloss Barracks. The 10K and 5K route will also use the tarmac/concrete surfaces within the barracks while the 1K Fun Run will use a taxiway next to the Race Village.
Speaking of the race village, it will house a registration tent, portable loos, first aid post, bag drop area and sheltered areas with benches and tables. There will also be catering available with a food van, coffee and ice-cream all planned.
All proceeds following event expenditure will be split between the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF) and the Royal British Legion (RBL) - Forres Branch. Speaking about their event, organisers say: "Whether you’re looking to complete a first 5K, train for a Half Marathon PB, or are looking to tick off ‘one more yard’, what are you waiting for? Sign up now!"
