Big Green Scunthorpe 10K

It's Big, It's Green, It's Back!

After a fantastic first year, this environmentally friendly 10K is back for business in May...

2023 saw Scunthorpe's Big Green 10K take place for the first time and, after amazing feedback from competitors, it comes as no surprise that organisers are going to do it all again in 2024 on 19 May. Commenting on the race's success, organisers said: "2023's event was fabulous, with overwhelming feedback! It made us all very proud to have created this event, in our home town. With a fantastic route that is perfect for spectators and fast times not to mention a great host location, 2024 is going to be amazing!"

The event's start and finish is in Scunthorpe's Central Park and takes place on closed roads around the North Lincolnshire town. Its green credentials come courtesy of the organiser's desire to make the event more sustainable. Those taking part will receive wildflower seeds in their goodie bags to help grow wild spaces and organisers are also helping to create a wildflower meadow in Central Park itself.

There will also be 'the best green medal ever'. Organisers say: "We've been working for months with medal companies to produce something great for runners and great for the environment. Not many races offer a composter as one of their prizes - but that's on offer at this event for the fastest male and females on the day!

Other fantastic reasons to run include a free mocktail and cookie at the finish line and a lively route where spectators can find their runners at the start, 3K & 7K marks as well as the finish, as they are all within 200 metres of each other! The on-site runners bar is at the 7K mark (no stopping) to relax in post event and provide spectators with a place to chill and cheer!

On the day, and running alongside the Big Green 10K, runners will be joined by the members of App Frod Sports & Social Club, to help create an event village at the finish and around Central Park, allowing runners, spectators and the community to pop along and discover new ways to get active, get social or get a new hobby!

Because of the success of the inaugural race, 2024 will see an increase in places available and there will also be a family 3K on the day too.
