Skinadin parkrun

There's a brand new parkrun for Scotland, and it is a real cracker...

Scotland has a new parkun and it is a beauty! Yes, parkrun has landed in Skye with the island's first ever parkrun taking place a few weeks ago on 10 August with close to 100 runners attending.

Skye resident, and runner David Jamieson is organising the event alongside a team of volunteers. The run will be held at the forestry track at Skinadin just north of Broadford, every Saturday from 9.30am.

The course starts and finishes at Skinadin car park and is an out and back route on a mixture of forest tracks and hardcore trails. The first 2.5K is a gradual uphill gradient with a few short steep sections near the turnaround point.

Speaking after the first event, organisers said: "Our first parkrun went ahead with 98 runners/walkers taking part. We learned a few things on the day and hope to fine tune these as we progress. Big thanks to all those who took part, to those who helped out, to those who have arranged to come another time. We felt the day as a whole went well."

Every week those taking part can grab a post-parkrun coffee at Coffee Bothy or Deli Gasta in Broadford. All are welcome.

The reaction to the new event has been positive, Andrew Bilton was at the first staging and commented: "Was amazing and well organised. Be there next Saturday."

While others are desperate to visit, Richard Banks said: "With those views this is going to become one busy parkrun. Can't wait to get up there and join in the fun." and Helen Hart concurred: "This is going to be right up there with the most scenic parkruns."
