Eilish McColgan wins 2022 London 10,000

McColgan Headlines London 10,000

There's still time to join Britain's fastest-ever woman over 10K in the capital...

Eilish McColgan, the fastest British woman in history at 10K, will return to race the Vitality London 10,000 on Sunday 22 September. The Scot will run the London 10K for the first time since 2022, when she won in 30:23, two seconds outside of Paula Radcliffe’s British record.

Later the same year, McColgan took the record away from Radcliffe when she recorded 30:19 in the Great Manchester Run 10K – 20 seconds faster than her mum Liz ran in Orlando in 1989, still fourth on the UK all-time list! Eilish famously won the Commonwealth Games 10,000m gold in 30:48.60 in Birmingham to end a stellar 2022 season.

Another British record – 30:00.86 for 10,000m on the track in March – was the highlight of a 2023 season that was cruelly cut short and the Dundee Hawkhill Harrier has been frustrated by injuries since then but is now returning to her best form after finishing 15th in the Paris Olympic Games 10,000m (31:20.51) earlier this month.

McColgan’s appearance at the 2024 Vitality London 10,000 will be her second race in the capital city next month, following her return to The Big Half on Sunday 1 September.

McColgan said: “I love racing in London and have great memories of the Vitality London 10,000 from two years ago. It’s a great event on a fantastic course. I was really pleased with how I performed at the Olympics and am now looking forward to building on that by getting back on the roads to race in September.”

The Vitality London 10,000 is held on a spectacular course in central London that starts on The Mall and goes past St Paul’s Cathedral, Bank of England, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, and Westminster Abbey before finishing in style in front of Buckingham Palace.

The free Vitality Wellness Festival in Green Park is held on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 of September alongside the Vitality Westminster Mile and Vitality London 10,000. It enables participants, their families, friends, and visitors to enjoy free activities throughout both days.

If you would like to join the fastest British woman in history over 10K in the capital there are limited places left in the 2024 event with entries, priced at £46.50, selling fast. To enter, or for more information, visit the official website here.
