Liverpool is preparing for its biggest running day yet, with a brand new 10K joining the city's established half marathon on Sunday 14 March 2027. Organisers BTR Liverpool have announced plans to accommodate 20,000 runners across the two races, building on a record breaking 2026 event that saw all 15,000 half marathon places snapped up.
The inaugural BTR Liverpool 10K will give runners a shorter way to experience the city's famous waterfront and enthusiastic crowds. Starting at 8:45am beside the Three Graces on Canada Boulevard, the route heads along The Strand towards Princes Park before returning to the Pier Head. With 3,000 places available, organisers hope the new distance will appeal particularly to runners progressing from 5K events and those not quite ready for a half marathon.
Meanwhile, the BTR Liverpool Half Marathon is getting bigger too. First staged in 1994, the race celebrates its 34th edition with capacity increased to 17,000 runners. Almost 9,000 places have already been taken, suggesting another sell out could be on the cards. For the second consecutive year, the half marathon will start outside Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium, taking runners through the city centre past landmarks including Liverpool Town Hall, the Chinese Arch and Liverpool Cathedral before finishing at the Pier Head.
The addition of the 10K represents another significant step in the event's development following BTR Liverpool's acquisition by Run For All in 2025. Both races will share the atmosphere of a major city running occasion, with the new distance providing an accessible introduction to Liverpool's biggest road racing weekend.
Entries are now open for both distances, and with a combined 20,000 places available, March 2027 promises to be a landmark moment for running in Liverpool.
Entries are available now via the runABC race hub.
