All I Want For Christmas Is A Trail Run
New Forest Xmas Trails brings four off road challenges to Hampshire on 6 December, with distances from 15K to 50K through the woodland and heathland of the New Forest...

Forget the Christmas shopping, the crowded high streets and the endless hunt for a parking space. BigFeat Events has a rather different way to spend the second Sunday of Advent, with four trail running challenges through the New Forest National Park on 6 December.
New Forest Xmas Trails is designed by trail runners for trail runners, with 15K, 30K, marathon and 50K ultramarathon distances. Each follows a fully marked, single lap course from Holmesly Campsite near Bransgore, heading into the forest's distinctive mixture of open heathland and woodland. The organisers describe the routes as challenging but runnable, making this a proper winter trail adventure rather than a gentle festive outing.
The shortest distance provides a substantial morning on the trails, while the 30K and marathon offer longer tests of endurance. For those who fancy one final big challenge before Christmas, the 50K ultramarathon stretches the experience beyond the traditional marathon distance. The marathon and ultra start at 8am, with the 15K and 30K following at 9am.
Winter running requires a little more preparation, and BigFeat takes that seriously. Mandatory equipment includes waterproof clothing, warm accessories, emergency protection and a mobile phone, with runners also advised to download their route before setting off. Well stocked aid stations and enthusiastic volunteers provide support along the way.
There's a thoughtful finishing touch too. Through the Trees Not Tees initiative, participants can choose to have a tree planted instead of receiving their finisher's medal. It's a fitting option for an event that celebrates one of England's best known natural landscapes.
Entries are available across all four distances, with prices starting at £36 for the 15K. For runners who prefer woodland trails to Christmas queues, this could be the perfect way to begin December.
