Event of the Week

Runner in the park

It's The Big Green Scunthorpe 10K

The inaugural event is keen to make a positive impact.

The Big Green Scunthorpe 10K aims to be the talk of the town when it makes its debut on Sunday 21 May. A fast, flat race with plenty to see and do and, most importantly, it's kind to the planet...

Sustainability is at the heart of this new event from Curly’s Athletes in conjunction with Scunthorpe & District RC. Curly’s are passionate about the environment and have created a motto: “Be Better – Not Perfect” which they apply to their events; making changes wherever possible to fit in with their green ethos. They’ll never stop learning the best ways in which to do so.

They are also a community-minded organisation and are keen for people of all ages and abilities to get involved in this event which fittingly boasts Central Park as its race village. Created as part of the Festival of Britain to celebrate the end of World War II, it continues to serve as the area’s premier park and North Lincolnshire’s most comprehensive example of fusing environmental sustainability, horticultural diversity and public facilities.

The race starts at 11am on a fully closed road course, faster and flatter than before with a great chance of a PB. Water will be provided in reusable cups and via a refill station at the finish along with a free ‘mocktail’ courtesy of LAVO Italian Bar and Kitchen.

Finishers receive a wooden medal and a pack of wildflower seeds then it's off to celebrate with their supporters at the on-site runners bar.

The event only opened for entries a few days ago with more than 230 places going in the first 24 hours! Extra places have been added in response to the demand.

Find out more about this new race and sign up at the Big Green website. There is also a virtual option for those unable to attend.
