Mud On The Run At Evesham Festive 10K

Muddy festive run & fun at Evesham

The weather was anything but festive at Sunday’s (15 December) 10K in Evesham with mud and puddles in place of snow and ice. Over 200 runners literally got into the thick of things at this charity race.

Evesham United FC was the venue for the sixth outing of this off-road 10K that raises thousands of pounds for charity. This was an undulating multi-terrain race on country lanes, through orchards and across fields around Evesham using a well-marked and scenic route.

Wintry weather, i.e. dry and cold would have been ideal for this Christmas event with many of the runners opting for festive costumes. A sprinkling of elves, Santas, snowmen and a bottle of beer were amongst the participants attempting to remain on their feet through the extremely muddy sections.

Marshals were well wrapped-up against the elements as they encouraged everyone making their way around. Amongst those battling through the mire was parkrun celebrity Imran Ali who is known for his trademark leap at the end of a run. He ecided against it this time due to the conditions!

Owen Grant of Tewkesbury RC was first across the line in 40:02 followed by Tom Bristowe of Redditch Stars in 41:16. Paul Childs of Malvern Buzzards RC finished a minute behind in 42:16.

Kate Wright of Stratford upon Avon AC was the female winner in 46:14. Nikki Hughes was second in 46:54 with Tamsin Bowden of Evesham Vale RC was third in 49:45.

Imran Ali of Sphinx AC finished in 1:00:02.

Cake, mince pies and warm Ribena were a welcome sight at the finish. All profits from the race were donated to Children With Cancer UK.
