Bring the Flames
Speed is the name of the game in Stirling this summer...
For those of you in search of some seriously fast track action this summer, look no further than the 6th Monument Mile Classic. Organised by Central AC, the evening track event will take place on 26 August at Stirling University.
Those in the know, may have noticed a slight shift in the calendar for this event as it has moved from May to August. Organisers commented: "Having typically hosted our race in May, we found that this time was beginning to become congested for races across the UK. This limited our ability to the best field possible, and it also affected our ability to retain our all-important officials.
"Further, we move from a Friday evening to a Saturday evening. We want to give our athletes the best ability to get to our race, and many will find this easier on a Saturday when coming from further afield."
In 2022 local lad Ben MacMillan obliterated the 4 minute barrier with a fiery 3:57 performance. Not only that, the fastest time by a 15-year-old was recorded by Corey Campbell of Team East Lothian who stormed round in 4:05.77.
Speaking about the event, organisers pointed out: "In light of the cost of living pressures, we are delighted to announce that the entry fees for our adult athletes remain the same as in 2022 (£12), and our entry fees for junior athletes falls to £9.
"We are delighted to offer free entries for elite athletes. Free entries will be offered to male athletes who have a 1,500m time of 3:43 or faster, and a mile time of 4:01 or faster. Free entries will be offered to female athletes who have a 1,500m time of 4:20 or faster, and a mile time of 4:40 or faster. If you wish to apply for this entry, please send an email."
