This relates to: Milton Keynes Winter Half Marathon
Three thousand places might sound like plenty, but history suggests runners shouldn't leave their Milton Keynes Winter Half Marathon plans until the last minute. Organisers Big Cow Sports are anticipating another sell out when the popular December fixture takes place on Sunday 6 December.
The race has become a favourite with runners looking to squeeze one final half marathon into their racing calendar. Starting and finishing at Willen Lake, the 13.1 mile course follows a single anticlockwise circuit through Milton Keynes, making extensive use of the city's traffic free paths and green spaces.
And there's plenty to recommend the route beyond its peaceful surroundings. Runners follow sections of the Grand Union Canal and pass through the linear parks that give Milton Keynes much of its distinctive character, with Linford Manor among the landmarks along the way. The flat profile also makes it an attractive proposition for those hoping to finish the year with a personal best.
There's evidence that the course can produce impressive performances. Johnny Hay's men's course record of 1:06:03 dates from 2016, while Andrea Clement established the women's mark of 1:19:36 in 2022. Both remain the official records listed by the organiser.
Big Cow Sports has also introduced an incentive for particularly speedy runners, with a limited allocation of free and discounted places available to athletes meeting specified qualifying standards. For the wider field, chip timing, regular aid stations and a bespoke finisher's medal complete the race day experience.
With the event having sold out in recent years, the message for anyone hoping to finish their 2026 racing season in Milton Keynes is straightforward. December might seem some way off, but those 3,000 places won't necessarily hang around.
